How do we visually represent abstract ideas, like God's presence? How do we draw something we've never seen, such as the fruit Adam and Eve ate in the garden?
Kayla Schlipf, the art director for Journey to Hope, is wrestling with those questions as she creates the scenes for this animated series.
It’s all part of the design phase of the animation production.
Design is a process of blending all the elements – color, pattern, composition and the constraints of the style guide – in a way that connects the audience with the story.
Kayla calls the designs a blueprint for the illustrators, who will take the sketch and make the final scene.
